Housing Supply

The road map presents a timeline of policy change and funding needed for the housing sector to meet the government’s ambitious housing goal of 1.5 million homes. It highlights the need to deliver ambitious planning reform, including properly resourcing the planning system, reviewing green belt land particularly around London, and funding infrastructure and regeneration on brownfield sites.  

On 11 July 2024, members of The Housing Forum convened at Wolverhampton’s Royal Quarter to discuss the latest developments in the housing sector.

The south west has particular challenges including a lack of affordable housing, with the average home costing £325,000, in part due to holiday lets and second homes pricing out local communities. The region has a mix of coastal, rural and urban communities, and a particularly encouraging environment for renewable energy generation, such as geothermal, wind and solar.

Our 2024 Spring Conference, brought to you by the Councils Network, focused heavily on viability and challenges with delivering new homes, with presentations from Housing Forum and Councils Network members.

The Housing Forum and Baily Garner hosted a roundtable of of industry leaders to share their experience of delivering housing through Joint Ventures (JVs).

Our first Development Partnership Forum of the year featured a series of talks in Foot Anstey's office, and a site tour in the surrounding area.
