Site analysis and feasibility workshop (fully subscribed, please see future dates below)

The Housing Forum through its Councils Network will be delivering a series of best practice workshops reserved exclusively for council development practitioners, development managers and others working directly for councils or via delivery vehicles.

The first workshop on site analysis and feasibility will look at best practice approaches to identifying and analysing appropriate sites and bringing forward viable sites quickly and efficiently with strong business cases. This will cover how to perform desk and on-site feasibilities and investigations, understanding specialist reports that may be required, and key considerations around viability.

Agenda

Expert Presentation 1: Neill Campbell (Partner) and Katie Parsons (Director) at architectural practice BPTW – using a number of Local Authority examples to illustrate how to identify and assess suitable sites and bring them forward expediently.

Expert Presentation 2: – Danny Sutcliffe (Partner) and Robert Bloss (Head of Land and Viability) at Red Loft – Focus on ensuring viability and presenting strong business cases.

Council Case Studies on good practice and lessons learned from:

  • Helen Horne, Strategic Manager, Housing Development, Housing, Development and Growth Directorate, City of Stoke-on-Trent
  • Claire Flowers, Head of Housing Development, Cambridge City Council (Cambridge Investment Partnership)

Break out session: Workshop groups facilitated by The Housing Forum, Presenters and Councils Network sponsor representatives – The groups discussion will be structured following the key themes of the presentations, and all attendees are encouraged to participate and share their experience – held under Chatham House Rules.

These workshops are supported by The Housing Forum’s Local Councils Advisory Group which provide valuable insights supporting our events and networking content.

These digital workshops are strictly non-promotional and are reserved exclusively for council development practitioners  – development managers and others –  either working directly for councils or via delivery vehicles, who are looking to develop knowledge on pertinent themes and common issues.  Attendees are encouraged to participate and share their experience.  These workshops will be exclusively online which best supports interaction across the country.

 (July, 2021)  Digital Workshop 3: Managing the Design and Planning Process – Key considerations on effectively project managing the design and planning process and your design team ensuring key project outcomes, planning and development risks are considered at the right time.

 (September, 2021) Digital Workshop 2: Procurement – A focus on the type of procurement to consider during the development process including procuring consultants and contractors and looking at procurement strategies to get the best outcomes.

 (Date TBC ) Digital Workshop 4: Construction – Focus on managing the  construction process covering contracting, design issues, budget and programme management
