Greater funding is available and the HRA cap has been lifted, but how do we ensure that a significant proportion new homes delivered by the sector are genuinely affordable?
Our first Breakfast Briefing of 2019 tackled the challenge of delivering genuinely affordable homes. The Housing Forum promotes more and better homes of all tenures, but despite additional funding and raised ambitions in the sector the challenge of providing sufficient homes for those in real housing need remains.
There is a political consensus that we need more affordable homes. Greater funding is available over longer periods and the HRA cap has been lifted. But how do we ensure that a significant proportion of the target 100,000 homes per year delivered by HA’s and local authorities are genuinely affordable.
This expert panel session provided an opportunity to discuss how local authorities can achieve their local targets, and how partnerships with housing associations, contractors and developers could support this aim.
