An update on the Homes England Strategic Plan, the housing strategy for Wakefield the growth of community housing initiatives and development at Dewsbury Riverside.
Kirklees Council hosted this Forum attended by colleagues from Calderdale, Doncaster, Hull, Rotherham and Wakefield Councils plus the West Yorkshire Combined Authority with housing associations, developers, suppliers and members of The Housing Forum.
Development Partnership Forums focus on strategic housing markets and the opportunities for increasing housing supply by working with a wide range of partners.
As well as an update on the Homes England (HE) Strategic Plan, the housing strategy for Wakefield and the growth of community housing initiatives, the Forum included an in depth examination of the 4,000 homes development at Dewsbury Riverside – one of West Yorkshire’s strategic development areas and a tour of Dewsbury Town Centre to examine historic buildings in need of repurposing.
This Development Partnership Forum covered:
- How Homes England is working with local authorities and housing associations across the Leeds City Region to increase and accelerate the supply of new homes.
- Long-term plans by local authorities to develop a wide range of new and affordable homes to meet local housing needs and the growing role of community-led housing.
- Detailed examination of Dewsbury Riverside, as an example of the biggest transformation projects outside Leeds in this region and the regeneration challenges inherent in the repurposing of historic building in Dewsbury Town Centre.
