In the UK today, 12 million people are over 65 and 14,500 are centenarians – an 85% increase during the Queen’s 70 year reign.
Relatively low numbers of the UK population live in retirement communities – just 0.6%- whilst it is 5.4% in New Zealand and 6.1% in the US. Prioritising age friendly design not only benefits older people but is central to tackling the wider housing crisis – but we focus on short term solutions which disguise this hidden housing crisis.
