Manchester’s Residential Growth Strategy is planned to deliver thousands of homes in communities close to the City Centre.
This Forum studied the area and heard from Jon Sawyer, Director of Housing at Manchester City Council and Gavin Taylor, Regional General Manager, Far East Consortium on ambitions for 15,000 new homes over 15 years followed by a tour of the Northern Gateway area and a round table discussion on the key principles of regeneration.
In December 2018, the City Council substantially raised targets for social housing delivery with the aim to build further social rented homes to exceed losses due to the right to buy. The essentials of this approach would be to ensure that the city had the right mix of housing – which would include key worker housing, community led housing and build to rent.
Partnership is fundamental to Manchester’s approach and they have selected the Far Eastern Consortium (FEC) as their long term investment and delivery partner. Long term relationships are critical due to the scale of ambition involved in delivering transformational projects.
