Company Profile:

Swan Housing Association was first formed in 1992 and provides high-quality and affordable homes to rent and buy. Today, we operate in East London and Essex and locally manage over 10,000 homes, with plans in place to deliver more than 250 new homes over the coming year.

Swan’s mission is to create homes and communities that people want to live in. We will continue to provide excellent housing services that meet the challenging needs of the communities of East London and Essex, delivering neighbourhoods that are healthy, vibrant and sustainable.

We have developed a set of core values to support our mission:

  • Insistent – we go the extra mile for our residents, we put energy into what we do because we believe in it.
  • In touch – we listen and respond to our residents and involve them in decision making, we are aware of the latest developments in housing.

We strive to provide an excellent service to all our residents and customers and have been awarded the Customer Service Excellence standard, demonstrating a commitment to and the delivery of excellent customer focused services. In addition to being compliant with the Customer Service Excellence standard, Swan has also been awarded five ‘compliance plus’ standards, demonstrating that we exceeded the level required to meet the standard. We are also an accredited member of Quality Housing Services. Involving residents in both the development of our services and scrutinising our overall performance is a key element of our corporate plan. Residents are involved at all levels within the organisation through both informal and formal involvement structures.

Our Corporate Social Responsibility Strategy sets out our aims to deliver sustainable communities by tackling equality issues including creating employment and skills opportunities and reducing our impact on the environment.

The Swan Green Team is a cross departmental group set up to explore ways in which we can operate more sustainably. Swan was shortlisted at the Sustainable Housing Awards 2012 for Social Housing Provider of the Year Corporate Sustainability Award. We are accredited to ISO 14001 standard and achieved a Silver Award in a recent SHIFT audit.

We have long understood the importance of creating employment and skills opportunities to support residents into training and employment working in partnership with a range of agencies and organisations. The Swan Foundation, the charitable arm of Swan, was set up in 2010 to enable the regeneration of disadvantaged areas by relieving poverty, increasing employment prospects and reducing the effects of economic and social exclusion

Why The Company Joined The Housing Forum:

Swan joined The Housing Forum to take advantage of the conferences and workshops available and engage with a range of organisations from across the housing sector to share best practice and work in partnership to promote the sector and influence policy.
