The long-awaited Future Homes Standard is now out.
It will ensure that new homes are off gas and zero-carbon ready, with most using heat pumps or heat networks. We know that many of our members are already building off-gas new homes with most of the features of the new Future Homes Standard, but everyone has been waiting on the full technical details and timelines. We now know that it will come into effect for most buildings from 24 March 2027, covering buildings started from 24 March 2028 (with slightly different rules for high-rise buildings).
