The Housing Forum National Conference – Shaping Our Future Housing

  • 20 October 2020

The Housing Forum National Conference is our fast-expanding flagship event and the premier cross-sector housing event in the UK.

For 2020, it will be held as a semi-virtual event on 20 October. This expands on the format of our hugely successful Spring/early Summer webinars attended by over 1,000 delegates in a trend which has seen us more than double physical event attendance.

Attendance of our conference has grown by 30% over the last two years. In 2020 we envisage welcoming some 500 delegates online, including leaders from housing providers, builders, landlords, local authorities, contractors, developers, architects, consultants, manufacturers and suppliers.

Councils Housing – Autumn Conference

  • 17 September 2020

This will be The Housing Forum’s second webinar conference on this topic. In May we attracted 135 delegates to this event with a wide range of council attendees from our membership and beyond.

They will join with commercial sector delegates in an event critical to supporting the development of innovative social housing projects.

Practical examples of collaboration to help overcome time, cash and labour issues are occurring. For example, clients agreeing to waive damages, move start dates without penalties and retentions paid early have shown how well and proactively the industry can respond.

But as these responses are neither universal nor consistent, the potential collective advantage is under-powered.

The industry generally would see a much greater impact if the best examples we heard about at the May conference were applied across the board. The September event will explore how things are progressing and how partnership models are being implemented.

All delegates at the Spring conference wanted a follow up event.

As one put it:

‘Longer term I heard the recognition of the need to collaborate better, my view is as we emerge from the crisis the need for efficiency is greater than ever. LA’s need to have the courage to adopt the Farmer principles, contractors don’t have all the answers, but are an essential element throughout the life of a project to ensure the right decisions are made at the right time, then it’s more likely things will be right first time’
