After consulting with members, The Housing Forum has submitted a document outlining its view on the Competition and Markets Authority’s working paper on housebuilding and planning.
The CMA’s study reviews various market outcomes, including two identified as the “most concerning” that a) homebuilding has fallen short of the assessed level of need and that b) this shortfall has occurred particularly in higher areas of demand.
The consultation around the study asked respondents several questions, particularly around the causes of uncertainty in the planning system and the risk of the planning system getting in the way of constructing new housing.
The Housing Forum’s response reflected the views of members, also highlighting the two recent reports published by our working group on the planning system: Streamlining planning to build more homes and Planning validation requirements: Moving to a planning statement approach instead of checklists.
The full response can be read in our Consultations & Campaigns section.
