The Housing Forum has responded to the consultation on the new Single Construction Regulator prospectus.

We support the move to a single construction regulator, but urge the Government to learn the lessons from the introduction of the Building Safety Regulator to ensure that changes in regulatory systems do not delay the building of new homes or the upgrading and management of existing homes.

To do this, the new regulator needs to be fully staffed from Day 1, with a well-planned and smooth transitional period, and with sufficient expertise and confidence to support the whole of the manufacturing and development sectors to know what they need to do to comply.

It is vital that supporting the manufacturing, housebuilding and retrofitting sectors to operate more efficiently is added as an objective of the new regime.
