The new UK government’s pledge to deliver 1.5 million homes over the next five years is fantastic news and also presents a huge skills challenge. Alongside this we need to manage and improve our existing homes.
You have an active role to play in changing the face of the industry: recruiting, retaining and developing the workforce we need for the future.
Did you know?
- The UK housing sector is experiencing an acute skills shortage with 83% of construction industry businesses reporting a lack of skilled workers.
- At least an extra 225,000 construction workers will be needed across all sectors by 2027 and there are shortages of surveyors, council planners and within the social housing workforce.
- We’re part of a green jobs revolution. Globally, renewable energy jobs grew by a million between 2021 and 2022 and demand for green skills in housing is soaring.
- Your organisation can access funds to train and upskill staff. Take a look at grants and funding available and find out about the construction levy on the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) website.
